Asheville Museum of History is committed to providing quality, engaging, and inclusive programs for the public.
CURRENT EXHIBITS
Asheville Museum of History has five gallery spaces with permanent and temporary exhibits covering thousands of years of western North Carolina history. Some exhibits are available to view online. In the near future, visitors will be able purchase guided behind-the-scenes tours of the c1840 Smith-McDowell House and Grounds.
VIRTUAL EXHIBITS
View digital versions of past exhibits that have been on display in our museum. From “Doug Ellington: Asheville’s Boomtown Architect” to “Hillbilly Land: Myth & Reality of Appalachian Culture,” we offer virtual exhibits on a variety of topics.

Our archival and object collections rotate on and off display in our permanent and changing exhibits as well as in behind-the-scenes guided tours of our historic house.
RESEARCH
Western North Carolina has a rich assortment of county historical societies, archives, and museums. We seek to help researchers, historians, genealogists, and the general public take full advantage of these resources.
